What Is Disaronno?

Disaronno is a type of amaretto, which is a sweet almond-flavored liqueur made in Saronno, Italy. It’s one of the most popular amarettos on the market, and you’d likely recognize it by its distinctive decanter-shaped container.

The liqueur went by the name Amaretto di Saronno initially, but switched to Disaronno Originale in 2001 for marketing reasons.

Though it may taste like almonds, there aren’t actually any almonds in Disaronno. Instead, it gets its sweet, nutty flavor from infusing apricot kernel oil with absolute alcohol, burnt sugar, and a mixture of 17 different herbs and fruits.

A 750ml bottle costs between $27-$31 depending on where you live, and you can find it at pretty much any liquor store or online.

What Can You Mix With Disaronno?

Disaronno (and amaretto in general) is a versatile liqueur that goes with a lot of different mixers, but the following are some of the most popular:

  • Citrus
  • Coffee
  • Fruit Juices (i.e. Cranberry, Pineapple, Apple)
  • Coke
  • Ginger Beer
  • Sparkling Wine
  • Whiskey
  • Cognac

These are just a few mixers that work well with Disaronno! Read on for specific recipes and more mixers that you can use with the sweet Italian liqueur.

20 Easy & Delicious Disaronno Amaretto Cocktails

These recipes make one serving unless otherwise specified. While they can technically be made with any amaretto, my recommendation is obviously Disaronno since it's a great amaretto for the price!

1. Classic Disaronno Sour

To start us off, we have one of the most classic amaretto cocktails! Sours are a family of cocktails that are made up of a spirit, lemon or lime juice, and some form of sweetener. Many sour recipes also include egg white, which gives drinks a silky texture.

Shake the ingredients in a shaker without ice for 20 seconds, then add in ice and shake for another 20 seconds. Strain into a glass with or without ice depending on your preference and enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Disaronno
  • 1 ounce Lemon Juice
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 1/2 ounce Egg White (or 1 egg white if using real eggs)

2. Disaronno Sour (No Egg White)

If you're vegan or simply don't like the texture of egg white, here's a sour that's eggless, simple, and super tasty!

Make it by adding the ingredients to a shaker with ice, shake well, then strain into a cocktail glass with ice and garnish with an orange wedge.

Ingredients:
  • 2 ounces Disaronno
  • 1 ounce Lemon Juice
  • 1 teaspoon Simple Syrup
  • 1 Orange Wedge (optional garnish)

3. Disaronno Fizz

It doesn't get much simpler than a Disaronno Fizz. All you need is 3 ingredients and it whips up in seconds!

Add the Disaronno to a glass with ice, then top with a squirt of lemon juice and sparkling wine.

Ingredients:
  • 2 ounces Disaronno
  • 6 ounces Sparkling Wine
  • 1/2 ounce Lemon Juice

4. The Godfather

This popular cocktail is named after the famous 1970s film of the same name. It's potent, but super drinkable and great as a night cap!

Most recipes call for Scotch whiskey, but you could also use bourbon if you want a slightly sweeter, smoother drink.

Add the ingredients to a mixing glass with ice, stir until chilled, then strain into a rocks glass with ice.

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 ounce Disaronno
  • 1 1/2 ounces Scotch or Bourbon

5. The Godmother

If you prefer vodka to whiskey, then this riff on the Godfather is for you! It subs out the scotch for vodka, which results in a smoother, more subtle cocktail.

Just like with the Godfather cocktail, stir the ingredients in a mixing glass with ice until chilled, then strain into a rocks glass with ice.

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 ounce Disaronno
  • 1 1/2 ounces Vodka

6. The Bocce Ball

If you're tired of mimosas, this is a fun cocktail that's perfect for brunch! It's essentially a Screwdriver with the addition of amaretto, so it's easy to make in a big batch and would definitely please a crowd.

Pour the first three ingredients into a tall cocktail glass with ice, then top with a splash of soda water.

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 ounce Disaronno
  • 1 1/2 ounce Vodka
  • 4 ounces Orange Juice
  • 1 splash Soda Water

7. The Toasted Almond

This cocktail will make you feel all the warm fuzzies on the inside, and is perfect for holidays or during the colder months of the year since it's such a cozy drink.

Add the ingredients to a shaker with ice, shake well, then strain into a cocktail glass with ice.

Ingredients:

8. The Red Snapper

While this drink is often served as a shot or shooter, it's just as tasty in a larger format! It's tart from the cranberry juice, sweet from the Disaronno, and has a satisfying bite from the whiskey.

Be careful when ordering this drink though, because there's another cocktail with the same name that's a riff on a Bloody Mary. So make sure you mention the ingredients or you might not get what you ordered.

Add the ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice, shake well, and strain into a cocktail glass with or without ice.

Ingredients:
  • 1 ounce Disaronno
  • 1 ounce Canadian Whiskey (like Crown Royal)
  • 2 ounces Cranberry Juice

9. Italian Margarita

This riff on a margarita follows a traditional margarita recipe, but throws in amaretto for extra sweetness and depth. It was popularized by Olive Garden, and it's an easy twist on a classic marg that adds just a hint of Italy. There are many variations on the recipe, but the below is my personal favorite.

Shake the ingredients up in a shaker with ice, then strain into a low ball glass with ice.

Ingredients:
  • 1 ounce Disaronno
  • 1 1/2 ounces Tequila
  • 1/2 ounce Triple Sec
  • 1 ounce Lime Juice

10. Disaronno Coffee

This is the perfect cocktail if you need a boozy pick-me-up! It also couldn't be easier to make and only requires two ingredients outside of optional garnishes.

Make your coffee how you like it, then pour in the Disaronno and top with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon.

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 ounces Disaronno
  • 6 ounces Brewed Coffee
  • Whipped Cream (optional garnish)
  • Cinnamon (optional garnish)

11. Disaronno Eggnog

Here's another sweet cocktail that's wonderful during the holidays! My family loves eggnog, and the Disaronno adds a nice almond sweetness to the cocktail. I usually use store bought eggnog to keep things simple, but any eggnog will work great in this recipe!

If you like a weaker drink, you can add more eggnog, but I like my cocktails on the stronger side of the spectrum 🙂

Add the ingredients to a shaker with ice, shake well, then strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a sprinkle of nutmeg or cinnamon.

Ingredients:
  • 1 ounce Disaronno
  • 1 ounce Bourbon
  • 4 ounces Eggnog
  • Nutmeg or Cinnamon (optional garnish)

12. Disaronno and Coke

You can never go wrong with a Disaronno and Coke! It's a tried-and-true classic that's as simple as it is tasty.

Add the Disaronno to a glass with ice, top with Coke, and enjoy! For a fun twist, you could even use cherry or vanilla Coke to give it an extra kick of flavor.

Ingredients:
  • 2 ounces Disaronno
  • 8 ounces Coke

13. Disaronno Spiked Cider

This is a perfect cocktail for fall that's easy to make in a big batch for tailgating or any party! Serve it hot or cold, and you can add bourbon as well for a stronger drink.

For a hot cocktail, heat the apple cider on the stove, then pour into a mug and add in the Disaronno.

For a chilled cocktail, shake the ingredients together in a shaker with ice, then strain into a cocktail glass.

Ingredients:
  • 1 ounce Disaronno
  • 1 ounce Bourbon (optional)
  • 4 ounces Apple Cider

14. Disaronno Daiquiri

Although most people think of super sweet frozen cocktails when they think of daiquiris, daiquiris are actually a family of mixed drinks made with rum, citrus, and sweetener. So they can make for a really well-balanced, elegant tiki cocktail.

This recipe uses amaretto for the sweetener element and for extra depth, along with rum and lemon juice.

Add the ingredients to a shaker with ice, shake well, then strain into a coupe or cocktail glass.

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 ounces Disaronno
  • 1 1/2 ounces Dark Rum
  • 1/2 ounce Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Simple Syrup (optional if you like your drinks a little sweeter)

15. Pineapple Upside Down Cake Cocktail

What do you get when you combine Disaronno and pineapple juice? Pineapple upside down cake in a glass! It's such a tasty combination, and with the grenadine it also visually looks like a pineapple upside down cake since it's red on the bottom and yellow on top.

Shake all ingredients other than the grenadine in a shaker with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Then slowly pour in the grenadine to achieve the layered visual effect.

Ingredients:
  • 1 ounce Disaronno
  • 1 ounce Vanilla Vodka
  • 4 ounces Pineapple Juice
  • 1/4 ounce Grenadine

16. Disaronno Cranberry Cocktail

This is another festive cocktail that's great for the holidays, but would be a welcome treat any time of year since it uses ingredients everyone loves!

Add the ingredients to shaker with ice, shake well, then strain into a cocktail glass.

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 ounce Disaronno
  • 2 ounces Cranberry Juice
  • 1 ounce Vodka
  • 1/2 ounce Orange Juice

17. Disaronno Colada

Everyone loves a good Pina Colada, and the Disaronno just makes the cocktail even tastier and more nuanced. It's perfect for poolside sipping or the beach!

Add the ingredients to a blender with ice, blend until well combined, then pour into a highball glass.

Ingredients:
  • 3/4 ounce Disaronno
  • 2 1/2 ounces Pineapple Juice
  • 2 ounces Light Rum
  • 1 ounce Coconut Milk
  • Ice

18. The French Connection

This classic cocktail, which gets its name from the movie of the same name, only requires two ingredients. It's booze-forward, but so easy to sip on after dinner as a digestif.

Add the ingredients to a mixing glass with ice, stir until chilled, then strain into a rocks glass with ice and serve.

Ingredients:
  • 1 ounce Disaronno
  • 2 ounces Cognac

19. Disaronno and Ginger Beer

This is a lesser known combination that will surprise you in the best way! The ginger beer adds spice, fizziness, and cuts through the sweetness of the amaretto, while the amaretto adds a rich nuttiness to the drink.

Add the Disaronno to a glass with ice, top with the ginger beer, and enjoy.

Ingredients:
  • 1 ounce Disaronno
  • 4 ounces Ginger Beer

20. The LunchBox Cocktail

This fun cocktail was invented in the 90s by bar owner Edna Scott. It's similar to a Shandy, which is beer mixed with citrus juice, but with amaretto added to the mix. So it's super refreshing and perfect for the summertime when you want a light, easy-drinking cocktail!

I tweaked the recipe a bit based on my preferences, but you can add in extra orange juice for a lighter drink if you'd like.

Add the amaretto and orange juice to a pint glass, then top with beer.

Ingredients:
  • 1 ounce Disaronno
  • 1 ounce Orange Juice
  • 4 ounces Light Beer (like a Pilsner or Pale Ale)

Which of these Disaronno cocktails are you excited to try? They’re all tried-and-true favorites in my household, which is why we always have a bottle of Disaronno on hand!

That sounds so good and I also couldn't find ANYTHING about it sadly! But I did find this recipe called the Nuts and Berries cocktail that's similar but doesn't have the Godiva. Bet it would be just as tasty and you could always add a splash of Godiva for good measure :)

My favorite is the Dr. Pepper. It's a boiler-maker like the Jager Bomb. Just be careful because they go down fast and can sneak up on you. First put the coke and beer in a short glass and the Disaronno in a shot glass (has to be a heavy one, no flimsy plastic disposable ones). Drop the shot glass in the coke/beer mix and drink it all down. Delicious and fun!

2oz Coke 1oz Disaronno 1/2oz beer

I love the idea of this! I bet it'd be good with a pilsner, but I'd also be curious to try it with a nutty brown ale. Either way would be delish!

I love the Canada Dry Disaronno with 2 drop of marple extract.

It supposed to be added with ice and raspberry flavor for an extra touch. But cannot remember what was the name of it. They made a commercial add at the tv about this drink, back in 1995-98 approximately... They was announcing about the special Cherry Disarrono edition at that time. (Limited edition) Cannot remember well but they did added some drop of marple extract to this drink... (Did they added mint into this too???) I never learned what was the name of this recipe!!! Since, i got stuck adding 1 or 2 drop of marple extract to this drink. It does missing something! XD
